Be a different economist: be an Infonomist! Understand the economic impact of information and information technology on international businesses and the international economy. Be able to analyse complex relations between new technologies and economic and business performance. Be part of a small-scale programme that prepares you for one of the biggest challenges of today: combining expertise in economics and business with a thorough knowledge of information management. Be ready for the Information Society.

Infonomics at Maastricht University

The Universiteit Maastricht (UM) Faculty of Economics and Business Administration (FE&BA) is the only faculty in the Netherlands that offers a programme which combines your interest in Economics and Information technology. As off September 2006, the FE&BA will offer a redesigned Infonomics bachelors and masters programme, completely adjusted to meet the demands of the Information Society.

There are many ways of explaining why the BSc and MSc programmes in Infonomics are unique. First of all, they are broad and specialized at the same time. There is one theme at the centre of both programmes: the impact of IT on economics and business. The programmes are small-scale, which means that there is close contact with the academic staff. The most important features of the programme are:

  • Both the BSc and the MSc programmes will provide a unique focus on business, economics and information management. Both programmes provide you with a braod and profound knowledge on the economic role of information and information technology in business and society.

  • The BSc in Infonomics will specialize at an early stage: only the first year of the bachelors programme is the same as the other Economics programmes. The second year you immediately start in the specialised Infonomics programme.

  • The BSc in Infonomics will provide you with some unique opportunities to study or work abroad during the third year of the programme. Students may decide to study at one of the 135 exchange partners in 39 countries worldwide. But also, the Infonomics programme will provide the opportunity for an internship in an international firm or government agency.

  • Both the BSc and MSc programmes in Infonomics provide a unique corporation of teaching staff from various departments, guaranteeing the broadness of both programs as well as a high level of specialisation within individual courses.

Job opportunities

Infonomics will prepare you for one of the biggest challenges of the future: combining knowledge of information management with expertise in economics and business. Which leads us to another very important reason: as an Infonomics graduate you will have no difficulty in finding a job. You will operate in business, the public sector, or in academics. Both large international firms and governmental organizations highly demand specialists who can assist them in developing new policies and strategies to deal with the new challenges. You are also likely to be hired as an economic consultant, because you know how to manage ICT solutions in organizations.
